Alcohol And Drug Abuse In Langlade County And Wisconsin
Alcohol abuse and opioids are well-known problems in Wisconsin. The state has one of the highest rates of alcohol abuse in the country. It has seen a rise in overdose deaths related to opioids like fentanyl, as has most other areas of the United States.
What is less well-known is that Wisconsin also suffers from methamphetamine abuse. Police from all over the state report increased arrests and seizures of methamphetamine labs. In mid-2017, three people near Antigo were arrested for running a meth lab in their home, and five children were found to be living there as well.
North Central Health Care expanded its treatment options in Antigo in April 2018, giving residents more extensive care that is closer to home. This expansion is mainly due to the methamphetamine problem that plagues Langlade County.
