Serenity Place

This is a substance abuse residential treatment center located in Greenville for pregnant women, young mothers, and their preschool-age children. Space is limited to 16 women with up to two children each. While in residential care, women are in treatment for at least 50 hours per week. Services focus on parenting and self-sufficiency. The Serenity Place program also offers special therapeutic services to children to ensure they are not affected by social and developmental delays so they can be ready for the first grade.

Also known as Charleston County’s Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services, this Charleston facility offers substance abuse prevention, intervention, detoxification, and additional treatment. The New Life Program is designed exclusively for pregnant and parenting women who struggle with substance abuse. Women are allowed up to two children (newborn to six years of age) to be cared for while they undergo treatment services. The facility also has a child development program for those children who may have developmental delays as a result of substance-abusing parents.
