Teen Alcohol And Drug Rehab Centers In Georgia

Adolescents make up one of the populations affected by abuse of or addiction to drugs or alcohol in Georgia. Teens and adolescents can benefit from addiction treatment that is specialized to this age group. The National Institute on Drug Abuse explains that there are evidence-based treatment methods that help adolescents, which include medication, behavioral therapy, and approaches that focus on the family.

How Much of a Problem Is Teen Addiction in Georgia?

A significant amount of Georgian teens have a problem with illegal drug use. In the NSDUHs for 2013 and 2014, Georgia’s percentage of people from the ages of 12 to 17 who used illicit drugs within the last month fell between 7.52 to 8.37 percent. For the same age group, Georgia’s residents who needed treatment for their illicit drug use but didn’t get that treatment fell between 3.26 and 3.52 percent, which is higher than the numbers in many other states.

In addition, there is the problem of co-occurring mental disorders that can coincide with addiction in teens. According to SAMHSA, or the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 8.5 percent of Georgian adolescents from 12 to 17 had a major depressive episode in the last year. SAMHSA noted that each year from the years of 2009 to 2013, approximately 66,000 Georgian adolescents reported that they had experienced one or more major depressive episode in the last year.
