United Healthcare Rehabs In New Jersey – Insurance Coverage

Financial restraints impact many substance abuse patients and their loved ones. Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, patients now must have access to substance abuse treatment through their insurance companies, but this coverage can vary from plan to plan, even within the same company. Patients should be familiar with their own plan so they know what exactly is covered in terms of costs as well as providers and facilities. This insight can help them make wise decisions that avoid unnecessary out-of-pocket expenses.

United Healthcare Substance Abuse Coverage in New Jersey

For patients in New Jersey, United Healthcare offers several different options for insurance coverage. These options are provided on four different levels: Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze. Each level indicates the amount of the health care expenses that the patient should expect to pay themselves while also giving some clues about the price of the plan. For example, the higher the plan is ranked, the higher the monthly premiums will be, but the lower the prices will be for the deductible, copayments and coinsurance. People must investigate carefully which system would work best for them.

Plans Overview

Each of these New Jersey plans is classified by the company is being an Oxford Compass plan. Since the plans have the same categorization, there are some similar traits that can be seen in all of  them.

Each of the plans will require you to select a primary care provider who will help you coordinate your care, including your rehab treatment. There are countless options for rehab care, such as long-term and short-term care, inpatient and outpatient care, or traditional and holistic therapies.

You also need to remember other aspects of rehab, such as detox and aftercare. Given the range of choices, it can be challenging for patients to determine which treatment and which facilities/practitioners will be best for them. Your primary care physician can help you sort through these choices and find the best types of care for you. They can then give you the referral you need to pursue the care.

You should note that there are no out-of-network benefits for those with these plans. All of the practitioners and providers you work with will need to be a part of the Compass network if you want to receive benefits. While this can seem restricting, remember the number of different treatment facilities available– this can actually help you narrow your choices faster.

Patients interested in holistic and alternative treatments should note that both acupuncture and chiropractic care are covered under these New Jersey plans. It is worth speaking with an insurance representative to see if other treatment options are as well.

Platinum

The current Platinum plan offered in New Jersey allows you to attend outpatient treatment with a copay and inpatient care with a coinsurance rate after the deductible has been met. Under this level, you are not eligible to establish a health savings account.

Gold

There are two payment types offered among the gold plans. In the first, you will have a copay for both inpatient and outpatient substance abuse treatment services– with the inpatient copay being higher than the outpatient. In the second system, you have a copay for outpatient care and a coinsurance requirement for inpatient treatment after the deductible has been met. Gold level plans are also not eligible for health savings account.

Silver

When you pursue treatment through a Silver plan, you will receive outpatient services for a copay after the deductible has been met or inpatient services for a coinsurance rate after the deductible has been met. Some of the Silver plans are eligible for health savings accounts. These accounts allow you to put aside money in a special tax-free savings account which can then be used to pay for certain health expenses, such as a deductible, additional cognitive behavioral therapy, or holistic treatments. These accounts can help you budget for upcoming rehab treatment.

Bronze

Under the current Bronze plans, you will receive both inpatient and outpatient services for a coinsurance rate after the deductible has been met. Like some of the Silver plans, Bronze level plans are eligible for health savings plans.

For patients in New Jersey, knowing what United Healthcare covers can help them find the best possible treatment while still remaining within their own personal budget.
