United Healthcare Rehabs In Missouri – Insurance Coverage

There are many concerns that must be addressed for rehab to be successful. Patients know that they should ideally find a facility and practitioners that match their individual needs. They need to consider factors such as the type and duration of their substance abuse problem, the support system they have at home, whether or not they have been through rehab before and even their personality to  make sure they find the right treatment center.

What many patients also cannot afford to neglect is the financial aspect of treatment. From detox to aftercare, there are multiple stages to rehab and they each carry a price tag. Fortunately, insurance companies are required to offer patients substance abuse treatment coverage, but what this coverage entails can vary.  Here is what patients in Missouri should know about United Healthcare.

Missouri United Healthcare Substance Abuse Treatment Coverage

In Missouri there are several different options for those interested in having an insurance plan with United Healthcare. Plans are divided into three categories: Gold level plans, Silver level plans and Bronze level plans. The different levels are not intended to describe the quality of care, but rather indicate what percent of health expenses can be expected to covered by the plan. Gold level plans generally are expected to cover about 80 percent of expenses, Silver level plans are expected to cover 70 percent of expenses and Bronze level plans cover 60 percent.

The current plans offered in Missouri are considered Compass plans. Under this category, United Healthcare offers patients coverage when they see providers who are in the Compass network. This can help you narrow your options for facilities and providers to the ones that have demonstrated to the insurance company that they provide value.

You will also be required to find a primary care provider. This practitioner will help you coordinate your care and they can refer you to any doctor or hospital throughout the network. You are required to have a referral before you seek another doctor or specialist. This level of coordination can be beneficial for those preparing to enter rehab. There are numerous options available for patients such as different types of therapies, duration and intensity of treatment as well as the need for aftercare. Your primary care physician will help you sort through your various choices and find the providers and care that will best fit your individual situation.

Many of the plans offered in Missouri also are currently eligible to be paired with a health savings account. An HSA allows you to put money away in a savings account that is tax-free and can be used to pay certain medical expenses, such as your deductible. When you know that you are going to have to pay for rehab, this account can be used to budget funds that can then be used to pay for services such as additional therapy or certain holistic treatments.

Gold

The plans on this level generally include a separate deductible for prescription drugs. This means that many patients will have to budget for this additional expense. Many people in rehab need medication for situations such as coping with detox or facing a co-occurring disorder. Mental and behavioral health services are generally covered with a flat copay for outpatient services and a percentage of coinsurance for inpatient services.

Silver

Like the Gold plans, there are a few Silver plans that also have a separate deductible for prescription drugs that patients need to budget for should it apply to them. When you receive mental or behavioral health services at this level, most plans cover outpatient services with a flat copay and inpatient services with coinsurance. There are, however, a few plans that will provide these services at no charge after the deductible has been met.

Bronze

The plans on this level generally do not include a separate deductible for prescription medications. Like the Silver plans, some Bronze plans will provide outpatient treatment with a flat copayment and inpatient treatment with coinsurance. Other plans, however, do not have charges once the deductible has been met.

As patients prepare to enter rehab, they often run through a long checklist of criteria they want to review. One of those considerations should also be finances. Patients need to be familiar with their insurance plans so they know what will be covered and what they need to budget for. This type of planning can make the entire process less stressful.
