Rehab Centers That Accept BCBS Insurance In Iowa

Iowa residents have access to Blue Cross and Blue Shield through several subsidiaries including Wellmark and Anthem. Either company offers individual, family and group plans to the people living in this region of America’s Heartland. If you or someone in your family is in need of drug or alcohol addiction treatment, then BCBS is there to help by paying some of the expenses for you, so you can focus on getting healthy.

What BCBS Pays

Rehabilitation services are available if you have Blue Cross and Blue Shield insurance, but, as with most companies, the amount insurance pays will depend on your plan. In most cases, Iowa residents can expect to meet a deductible and have a copayment for treatment. If you get your BCBS insurance through an employer, then the plan they offer will determine the benefits. For example, BCBS provides Federal employees living in Iowa a comprehensive plan that pays for both detox and inpatient hospitalization. Blue Cross recognizes that detox is an essential part of recovery, so they include it in their group benefits plan, as well as covering therapy to help you maintain sobriety.

Metal Levels Available with BCBS

Like other health insurance providers, Blue Cross Blue Shield segregates their plans by metal level. With most BCBS subsidiaries, each metal level may come with different options, as well. For instance, there may be one Bronze plan for PPO coverage and a different one for HMO. The plan may also be based on the county and city where you reside. Your deductible and out of pocket expenses depend on the plans available to you.

If you live in Iowa, odds are you get your BCBS insurance through an employer. The company offers employer group plans based on the size of the company. A small business with less than 50 employees would have access to different plans than a corporation that covers benefits for hundreds of people. All policies will offer some level of drug treatment coverage because it is listed as one of the Essential Health Benefits in the Affordable Care Act.

The amount you pay for your overall health care, including drug or alcohol treatment, depends on the metal level and the tiered plan offered to the employer. Generally, Bronze plans require you to contribute 40 percent of the costs up to the out-of-pocket maximum. Silver is usually 30 percent, Gold, 20 percent and Platinum, 10 percent. BCBS may require you to meet the deductible for your plan prior to paying any of the cost of drug treatment. In other words, if you have a deductible of 1,500 dollars, you must pay that amount of your overall health care costs for the year before the insurance coverage for substance abuse begins.

Inpatient vs. Outpatient Treatment

If you are lucky enough to have Blue Cross Blue Shield, then the company will likely pay for both residential treatment and outpatient care. Residential treatment means you live in a facility for 30 to 90 days while recovering. Outpatient care allows you more freedom. You go in for treatment and then leave to go home. You are able to work during with outpatient care, as well. Your doctor is the one who determines how much treatment is necessary based on your status.

Pre-Certification Requirements

Most Blue Cross Blue Shield plans require a referral and pre-certification for rehabilitation services. Once a doctor deems it medically necessary that you get treatment, he or she will give you a referral. If you seek treatment at an in-network facility, your costs may be less.

The company requires pre-certification to treatment, as well. If is up to you to ensure that the facility providing your care gets proper authorization. If you fail to go through the authorization processes, BCBS may charge you a fee of up 500 dollars.

For Iowa residents, Blue Cross Blue Shield is available through a subsidiary or an employer-sponsored group plan. This insurance company pays a portion of the cost of detox and rehab, both inpatient and out, based on your plan.
