Rehab Centers That Accept Aetna Insurance In Michigan

Patients preparing to enter rehab for a substance abuse treatment have plenty of worries to occupy their time. This disease can be devastating for individuals and their families. Patients need to focus their time and energy on getting well and finding their way back to the path towards health. To achieve this state, it can be very beneficial for patients if they know exactly how their treatment will be funded. Alleviating financial stress on them and their loved ones can remove an enormous burden.

Insurance companies are required to provide coverage for mental health and substance abuse treatment. This coverage, however, is not the same from plan to plan. Patients should familiarize themselves with the specifications of their own plan so they can make the best decisions about their treatment. This insight into coverage can help with issues such as budgeting, choosing providers, and selecting therapies. There are a variety of options available within the specialty of substance abuse treatment and recovery, giving patients many choices to choose from. Not only are there different techniques, but there are also different stages of treatment such as detox, inpatient versus outpatient treatment, halfway houses, and continuing treatment. Patients have to carefully evaluate, with the help of their providers, what types of treatment will be necessary in their unique situation. Knowing what is covered and the rate of coverage can help patients make the optimal treatment decisions.

Here is what all patients should know about Aetna substance abuse coverage in Michigan.

Aetna Substance Abuse Coverage in Michigan

For patients in Michigan interested in pursuing rehab treatment, there are a few plans from Aetna that can be helpful for controlling costs. There are three main levels of plans: Catastrophic, Bronze, and Silver. These plans are largely separated by their costs. Silver will generally have higher monthly costs than the Bronze plan, but it will also have lower healthcare charges, including a lower deductible.

Each of the plans currently sold in Michigan from Aetna does provide some degree of coverage for out-of-network services. This will make it easier for you to find a provider with whom you will be able to work well. You also are not required to get a referral to see a specialist. This gives you even greater freedom, as you will not have to go through the extra step of meeting with the primary care physician to secure the referral before proceeding to treatment. This can help ensure that the patient gets the necessary treatment as quickly as possible.

Patients interested in holistic or alternative treatments should also carefully discuss these treatment options with their providers and their insurance agent before proceeding with care. Most plans indicate that certain types of treatment, such as chiropractic care may occasionally be covered, but others, such as acupuncture– not for anesthesia– will not be. It is important to clarify before pursuing alternative treatments.

Catastrophic

These types of plans are only available to people who are under the age of 30 or those who have a hardship exemption, meaning that other insurance options would be unaffordable. The Catastrophic plan in Michigan will cover all your inpatient and outpatient rehab care, when done in-network, with a 0 percent coinsurance rate. if you go out of the network, however, you will have 50 percent coinsurance.

Bronze

A Bronze level plan will cover about 60 percent of your healthcare costs. You will have lower premiums than a Silver plan, but your deductible, copayments and coinsurance will cost more. On this level, your plan will either offer you a flat copay for both inpatient and outpatient rehab services or 0 percent coinsurance for rehab done in-network. If you go out-of-network, however, you will have to pay 50 percent coinsurance on all plan options. It is important to note that on the Bronze level, certain plans are eligible for a health savings account, an HSA. This account allows you to set aside money to pay for certain medical expenses. It can be used to cover deductibles, extra therapy for aftercare, or possibly types of covered holistic treatments.

Silver

A Silver level plan will pay for about 70 percent of your covered health care costs. You will have higher premiums than the Bronze option, but the trade-off will be lower deductibles, copayments and coinsurance. With some of the Silver plans offered in Michigan, there is also an additional ‘specific services’ deductible for prescription drugs. Medications are commonly used in rehab to help patients coping with co-occurring disorders, for patients who have a very challenging or even dangerous detox process, and even to help some patients maintain sobriety. Patients should understand that this deductible does not apply for in-network preferred generic drugs and should work with their prescribing provider to find the best medication to serve them. Silver plans will also cover out-of-network rehab care at a 50 percent coinsurance level. They will cover in-network inpatient care with a 30 percent coinsurance rate or a 30 percent coinsurance rate plus a copay. Outpatient rehab will be covered with a $75 copay per visit on all plans.

As patients prepare to enter rehab, they have many things on their mind. To provide them with the optimal environment for recovery, it is important to try and limit the number of stressors. This means reviewing insurance coverage and determining how much will have to be paid out-of-pocket so that the patient can enter treatment known that financing has been covered.
