With multiple substances trafficked through the area, residents are subject to drug use and abuse.

Substance Abuse In Alpine & Brewster County

In addition to a large amount of marijuana law enforcement discovered during a routine traffic stop in 2017, Brewster County has also been the site of more high-profile drug activity. Just seven months after that seizure, a multi-agency drug investigation resulted in 38 people in the Big Bend area being arrested.

The Department of Public Safety investigation, which started during the early part of 2017, focused on the possession and delivery of marijuana and controlled substances, as well as other criminal activity. At least seven of the 38 people arrested as the result of the investigation maintained addresses in the city of Alpine, with many more residing in nearby communities.
