Substance Abuse In Flemington

In late 2017, Flemington’s law enforcement agency got a new member to fight the opioid crisis: Jax, a Dutch shepherd canine officer. The dog was sworn in at the historic courthouse and was brought onto the force to especially combat the growing opioid epidemic.

Jax is expected to serve the community of Flemington, and others in New Jersey, for years to come. His nose can help sniff out opioids and other illicit drugs that contribute to the worsening crisis. Over 6,000 people have died in New Jersey from drug-related overdoses since 2004. In New Jersey, Heroin overdoses alone are 3 times higher than the national average. Jax is one piece of a larger puzzle to help solve the crisis and save lives.
