Genesis Counseling Centers is a non profit organization that believes in helping every member of the community grow and heal, offering counseling services for people suffering from substance abuse and addiction. Providing both individual and group counseling sessions, Genesis offers a variety of programs to help people manage addiction and promote healthy lifestyles.

The center offers an intake appointment for a cost of $75, plus a $25 fee for a drug test to accurately assess a person’s level of addiction. A portion of these charges should be covered by private insurance, but Genesis Centers are willing to work with a person to make sure payment doesn’t prevent treatment.

Substance Abuse In Collingswood

A 19 year old student at Temple University is doing everything she can to help combat the growing opioid epidemic in the United States. As a resident of Collingswood, 15 minutes outside Philadelphia, the young woman has taught herself how to properly administer Narcan, an opioid reversal medication that reverses the effects of opioid overdoses, potentially saving lives.

She had the idea to host a seminar on Temple’s campus on how to use Narcan. The seminar was a success, with over 300 students showing interest in the event. There were over 900 opioid overdose deaths in Philadelphia alone in 2016, and by raising awareness about Narcan, the hope is people will be able to administer the medication to reduce fatalities.
