Towaoc sits almost 6,000 feet above sea level and the area gets about three times more snow than the average U.S. city. Towaoc is the capital of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe and is located close to the sacred Sleeping Ute Mountain.

Towaoc doesn’t have a lot to offer in the way of lodging accommodations for people seeking treatment in the area – or friends and family that wish to visit a loved one – but there are a few popular overnight venues. There’s the Ute Mountain Casino, Hotel & Resort in Towaoc itself, and several other venues in nearby Cortez, such as America’s Best Value Inn, Kelly Place Bed and Breakfast and Rodeway Inn.
