Rhode Island Drug Detox Centers

Rhode Island Drug Detox Centers Help Patients Achieve Sobriety

When people think of Rhode Island, they often remember that it is the smallest state in the country. However, this tiny state has a growing problem that society must address. Rhode Island currently ranks in 13th place for having the highest drug overdose mortality rate in the United States. In 2013, 15.5 of every 100,000 drug overdose incidents resulted in death, and many of those overdoses were related to prescription drug abuse. This rate has nearly tripled since 1999, when just 5.5 of every 100,000 drug overdoses were fatal.

The state legislature in Rhode Island is working toward improving this rate by creating bills that would make it more difficult for prescription drug abusers to repeat their offenses. For instance, House Bill 6237 is currently working its way through the legislative process. This bill would allow those who prescribe medication the authority to request authorization for tamper-resistant medication before prescribing it to an individual who has abused prescription drugs in the past or who is at risk of abusing prescription drugs like Oxycodone, Percocet, and Xanax. This bill would have to be approved by both the House and the Senate before going to the Governor’s office.

With the drug overdose mortality rate in mind, many people battling prescription drug addiction and substance abuse are seeking out the help of drug detox treatment centers. These centers are designed to help patients overcome the difficult symptoms associated with withdrawal, and help them move toward a better, healthier and sober life. In addition to providing physical help and resources during withdrawal, drug detox centers offer patients long-term care that allows them to maintain their sobriety into the future. Drug detox centers aim to not only help people take the necessary steps to become sober in the short-term, but to also truly transform a patient into someone who is capable of living a sober life.
