Mississippi Court Ordered Alcohol and Drug Rehab Centers

Often times, substance abuse and addiction can lead an individual to commit a crime that they could be arrested for. Instead of serving time in jail, however, these individuals often have the chance to attend a court-ordered rehab program in order to treat the root of the problem. Mississippi offers several of these programs to help individuals overcome addiction while also reducing the amount of drug-related crime.

Many residents of Mississippi are currently dealing with drug and alcohol abuse. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services reports that nearly 8,000 people over the age of 12 in this state were abusing alcohol and/or drugs just during 2007.

Unfortunately, the abuse of controlled substances often leads to legal trouble and arrests. In fact, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, over 30 percent of males with at least two arrests were actively abusing drugs in the past year, while more than 50 percent of males with at least two arrests were abusing alcohol in the past year. In cases where alcohol and/or drugs were believed to have played a role in legal issues, the judge may mandate court-ordered substance abuse treatment.

What is Court-Ordered Treatment?

A court-ordered substance abuse treatment program is a mandatory program that you must attend if you are ordered to do so in a court of law. In some cases, court-ordered treatment may be part of your sentence for a crime. In other cases, it may be offered as an alternative to jail time or another more serious consequence. In addition, some people are forced to participate in court-ordered treatment when a concerned friend or family member convinces the court that such treatment is necessary.

These programs operate similarly to traditional voluntary programs and typically include a variety of treatment strategies, such as detoxification, group therapy, individual therapy, medical support, and/or behavioral therapy. However, unlike voluntary treatment programs, court-ordered treatment is mandatory. If you fail to complete the program, you will most likely face legal consequences.

A court-ordered treatment program may be conducted as outpatient or inpatient, depending on the requirements of the court and your treatment preferences. If you enroll in an outpatient program, you won’t be required to stay at the facility in between treatment activities. However, if you enroll in inpatient treatment, you will live in the facility until the program is complete.
