While we do not offer Christian treatment programs at our facilities, for many people in recovery, spiritual healing is just as important as healing the body and mind.

What Is Christian Drug Rehab?

Christian drug rehab programs work much like rehabs without a faith component, but in a Christian program, individuals will pair the power of faith with other healing modalities. These programs help addicted individuals relate aspects of their faith to their journey in recovery.

Utilizing faith to navigate the sometimes difficult process of addiction recovery can be both useful and empowering. Christianity does not condone drug addiction or abuse, but it does encourage forgiveness and understanding—two components which can be very helpful for a newly recovering individual.

Christian drug addiction treatment programs emphasize putting faith in God and the freedom this allows you, the importance of leaving addiction behind and moving forward with a life of faith and service, and having a good spiritual awareness to avoid further falls from grace.

Christian Alcohol Rehab Programs

Christian drug and alcohol rehab programs work to rebuild faith, restore health, and foster a spiritual awareness that will help you abstain from alcohol abuse and addiction in the future. Many people are unaware of alcohol abuse in their lives, and don’t know they’re at risk of addiction or dependence.

Alcohol dependence isn’t something you can cure by simply “putting down the bottle.” Recovery from alcohol dependence and addiction may require detoxification, a number of treatment modalities like counseling and therapy, and for some, a faith-based component.

How Do Christian Addiction Treatment Programs Work?

Christian addiction recovery programs work by guiding you through your recovery journey and helping you to find a renewed faith for your own personal benefit and to benefit your recovery. You’ll look at instances in your life that were greatly affected by alcohol or drug abuse, and how your life has changed in the process. Then, you’ll slowly learn to seek forgiveness and to forgive yourself.

Forgiving yourself is a large part of addiction recovery. In order to move on to the healing part, you have to first make peace with your past, or at least work daily toward that goal.

In Christian rehab, you’ll learn to face the things you’ve said or done head on, take on responsibility for the weight of them, and forgive yourself so you can move forward.

What Is Christian Treatment Like?

In the right rehab, a Christian addiction recovery program is tailored to your individual needs. In addition to participating in traditional healing modalities, like counseling, medically supervised detoxification (if needed), and therapy, you’ll also participate in Christian individual and group therapy, prayer groups, and more.

The overall goal of a Christian treatment program is to help the individual experience both the peace and love of grace through a personal connection with God. Restoring or rebuilding faith may not take a lot of hard work, but may come with just a few instances of experiencing this deep connection.

People in recovery from addiction are dealing with a host of traumatic emotions and feelings, many of which can hinder the healing process. Christian addiction recovery programs utilize faith and forgiveness to help you confront and conquer these feelings and emotions so you can move past them.

Spiritual Healing In Addiction Recovery

Entering addiction recovery may be intimidating for some people. In fact, the fear associated with rehab may be the reason so few seek treatment for drug or alcohol abuse and addiction. For as long as there have been issues in drug and alcohol abuse, there has been a gap between the number of people who need treatment and the number of people who receive it.

According to the National Institute On Drug Abuse (NIDA), decreasing this gap would require a number of efforts, including making treatment more readily available, increasing awareness about the importance of addiction recovery, and reducing the stigma associated with treatment.

Spiritual healing is one side of addiction recovery, yet it is important for many people because faith has such a large role in their lives. Even for people who haven’t previously interacted with faith, spiritual healing can be helpful because it gives them a way to connect with a higher being and find forgiveness they may not otherwise find.

Many rehab centers now take on a holistic approach to healing, which includes the healing of the whole self: mind, body, and spirit. Your personal treatment program may be Christian-based, and include prayer and Christian therapy groups. Or, it may focus on a non-denominational healing of the spirit through mindfulness techniques like meditation. Whatever the case, it’s important to include healing of the spirit in addiction recovery.

Is Spiritual Healing Effective?

There are no specific studies to support the effectiveness of Christian (faith-based) healing, but one aspect of Christian faith has proven to have a powerful effect in healing many conditions and illnesses: prayer.

An article by the National Center For Biotechnology Information (NCBI) states, “prayer has been reported to improve outcomes in human as well as nonhuman species…”

With the power of prayer and other healing modalities combined, people in many different rehab centers have seen successful recovery outcomes with a faith-based program.

Psychology Today explains, “from a scientific perspective, faith healing is unexplained, incomprehensible, and should not work. Yet it does work.” Why is spiritual healing effective?

Improving faith repairs your spiritual health, which can be essential to a successful recovery outcome. Also, faith healing can boost your immune function in a manner similar to the placebo effect of healing. The medical field uses placebo methods, or medications or therapies with no active healing agent, to improve health through the power of the mind.

In short, faith works because you believe that it will; you put your faith in a higher power and allow that power to heal you.

Where To Find Christian Rehab Centers

When you enter a Christian program, you’ll want not only the faith aspects of healing, but also evidence-supported healing modalities for an integrated, comprehensive recovery. The best rehab centers will work to build a plan that is customized to your individual needs in treatment.

If you need detoxification, you may receive medically supervised detoxification services. If you need medication to make it through the harrowing process of withdrawal, you can receive that as well. Therapy can be Christian-based and include individual counseling, as needed.

It’s important to find a Christian alcohol or drug rehab center that work with you to make a recovery plan that fits your needs, and we can help you find one. Even if you don’t find a rehab center that is Christian-only, you’ll likely be able to find a facility that works to help you improve all aspects of your health, including your spirituality.
