Drug And Alcohol Rehabs That Accept MultiPlan
MultiPlan is an independent PPO network which includes both regional and nationwide primary PPO networks. They also provide services for commercial and government healthcare programs. Many of these plans offer MultiPlan clients coverage for substance abuse services.
Insurance plans cover an array of services, ranging from preventative care to more acute and pressing needs. If you or your loved one is struggling with a drug or alcohol addiction, time is of the essence. The sooner you get treatment the better chance you have of protecting your health and achieving long-term sobriety.
You or a loved one’s stay at an inpatient rehab center may be covered up to one hundred percent depending on your insurance plan. While MultiPlan is not an insurance provider themselves, they do provide network services and products to other health insurance payers or carriers. Individuals who have insurance through these entities have coverage supported by the MultiPlan network.

What Is MultiPlan?
Since 1980 MultiPlan has been providing services which meet America’s growing healthcare needs. To meet this demand, nearly 900,000 providers have a contract with MultiPlan. To better understand the scope of this care, MultiPlan reports that the combined total of network and non-network solutions equals roughly 40 million claims. According to their website, “MultiPlan’s networks are used by our clients to provide access for their members to a variety of commercial and government sponsored health care programs, including:”
- Private and Employer Sponsored Health Plans
- Medicare Advantage
What this means is that health insurance payers or insurance carriers use MultiPlan’s network products and programs to provide their customers with PPO services and coverage. This coverage gives them access to MultiPlan’s expansive network of providers.
With a wide-ranging PPO (preferred provider organization) network, MultiPlan has regional PPO networks established in Wisconsin and the southwest. They also offer some regional coverage in Michigan, Minnesota, and Hawaii. Their coverage doesn’t stop there. As outlined by their website, MultiPlan is “the only company that can offer access to the leading independent national primary PPO as well as our complementary network, and negotiation and medical reimbursement services through a single electronic submission.”
What Are MultiPlan’s Network Brands?
Over the years, MultiPlan has acquired various health care companies, including Private Healthcare Systems, Inc. (PHCS); Northeast Health Care Alliance; and Integrated Health Plan, Inc., among others.
Nationwide, MultiPlan offers The PHCS Network as a primary network and The MultiPlan Network as a complementary network for services outside of the primary provider network. MultiPlan also a Centers of Excellence Network, a nationwide transplant network.
In addition to these, MultiPlan’s network brands include:
- Arizona Medical Network (AMN)
- Beech Street
- HealthEOS Plus+
- Health Management Network (HMN)
- Integrated Health Plan Inc.
- PHCS Savility
- Rural Arizona Network (RAN)
- ValuePoint (By MultiPlan)
- Medicaid and Medicare programs (see below)
An individual’s specific coverage will vary, but often will help pay for substance abuse treatment.
Does The MultiPlan Network Offer Alcohol And Drug Addiction Treatment?
The exact extent of your coverage depends on your specific plan, network, and state. Coverage varies and may range from a small to larger portion. Typically, with a PPO, a person is able to choose whatever provider they wish without a referral as long as they are in-network. While you could choose treatment out-of-network, it may be more expensive. This option may be good for those who wish to travel to another region or state for treatment.
Again, as MultiPlan is not an insurance company, they do not offer customers information “on benefits, coverage or eligibility,” as explained by their site. They also do not pay out claims. For these reasons if you have a PPO network through MultiPlan, you must contact the specific insurance company or benefits administrator listed on the back of your card. These health insurance payers will be able to explain your exact coverage and benefits in regards to substance abuse treatment, including detoxification services and medications.
Does MultiPlan Offer Network Access To Medicare Or Medicaid?
On a national level, MultiPlan offers network access to Medicaid programs through PHCS Medicaid. If you live in Texas, this is through the Texas True Choice Network. Medicaid programs include The Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), for youth up to age 19. In Texas, CHIP coverage extends to perinatal programs. According to the program’s website, these do not cover the mother’s treatment for mental health or substance abuse. Both Medicaid and CHIP programs could help you with mental health and/or substance abuse concerns.
MultiPlan has a provider’s network for Medicare Advantage programs called the MultiPlan Medicare Advantage Network. It was previously called the Beech Street Medicare Advantage Network. The site explains these services: “Medicare Advantage Organizations and payers that administer these programs use our network in defined geographic areas to supplement their own networks to provide greater access to quality affordable healthcare for their members.” For substance abuse treatment, Advantage plans may supplement existing insurance coverage or cover a portion on their own.
How Do I Create A Treatment Plan?
Insurance can seem like a foreign language. Fortunately, trained professionals exist to help you make better sense of your plan coverage and other pertinent details. It is a good idea to call both your insurance agent and the treatment centers you are interested in. Remember not to call MultiPlan directly, but the insurance company or benefits administrator listed on your card. Prior to doing so, it can be helpful to write down any questions or concerns.
In addition to your specific thoughts, needs, or worries, here are some basic questions you should consider asking:
- Does my plan cover detoxification services (detox)?
- Is outpatient and/or inpatient drug rehab covered?
- Is there a maximum length of stay or daily limit you cover during inpatient treatment?
- Will my insurance cover detox along with addiction treatment?
- Is the covered amount of these services partial or full coverage?
- If I prefer to go to an out-of-network facility, what is my coverage?
- Can you provide me with a list of in-network facilities where my insurance is accepted?
- Are there certain services, treatments, or medications you do and do not cover?
- Does my insurance cover any type of aftercare services?
We understand this can seem intimidating. Don’t hesitate to ask questions. That’s why they’re there—to help you get the most of your plan and the treatment program. Remember: the more questions you ask and in-depth answers you receive, the better prepared you are to make the best, financially sound decision.
Are There Other Ways To Help Pay For Treatment?
When deciding on a treatment program, it is important to consider every financial option before you commit. Beyond insurance, these options may include certain scholarships or grants, certain types of loans, health savings accounts (HSA), medical credit cards, reduced or sliding fees from the rehab, treatment financing, and/or assistance from family or friends.
