Cambridge Substance Abuse Admissions StatisticsThe Massachusetts Bureau of Substance Abuse Services has studied a number of trends regarding addiction treatment in Cambridge between the years of 2009-2014. Patients admitted during this time were mostly male and comprised 71 percent of those seeking care. Clients were, however, more racially diverse than in many of the other surrounding cities in Boston.
About 46 percent of clients were heroin users and 38 percent abused alcohol. All other categories of drug brought less than five percent of clients into treatment. Substance use trends were more evenly distributed and all categories of drugs (heroin, opioids, marijuana, alcohol, crack/cocaine, etc.) were used by 15-25 percent of the admitted group. Educational background was also well distributed. There were similar numbers of admissions among those with no degrees, high school, college and graduate.

This city works hard to give their residents and visitors a world class experience in recovery. Womanplace Offers Targeted Care For Women And LGBT ClientsThere are many reasons to consider a gender-based treatment program. Women and men often choose different substances, have different reasons for becoming addicted, and require different forms of support. Even the mental illnesses accompanying a dual diagnosis are typically different. Caspar's program is designed with this in mind and is a step above a one-size-fits-all treatment.
Womanplace also offers treatment for the LGBT community. The center has hired staff that will approach the unique cultural perspective in order to give LGBT members who struggle with addiction the acceptance they need to begin a journey to wellness.
Womanplace welcomes those struggling with addiction, dual diagnosis, pregnancy or postpartum combined with addiction, and those dealing both with addiction and an HIV/AIDS diagnosis. Treatment is focused on inpatient care (60, 90 and 120-day programs) and aftercare in the form of sober living and halfway houses.
