Miami and the surrounding communities in southeastern Florida are part of the National Drug Early Warning System. The program provides up-to-date information on drug use and treatment trends in the area, including:
- Deaths from prescription drug misuse are rising as of 2017 in Miami-Dade County, after they declined between 2011 and 2013.
- In 2017, 19% of Miami-Dade County residents reported binge drinking five or more drinks on one occasion.
- 6% of Miami-Dade County residents, or more than 141,000 people, reported having a substance use disorder in 2017.
- Deaths due to cocaine and/or fentanyl are increasing in Miami-Dade County.
