Kentucky Affordable Healthcare Insurance Coverage

There are two main types of treatment for individuals attempting to overcome drug or alcohol issues – inpatient treatment and outpatient treatment. The former is said to be the most effective form of treatment for long-term sobriety, as it is highly intensive, around-the-clock treatment where individuals check into a specific treatment center for 30, 60, 90, or up to 120 days. Inpatient treatment centers generally combine individual therapy with group therapy sessions, and may also include alternative forms of therapy such as holistic, wilderness, and even art therapy. The other main type of substance abuse treatment method, outpatient therapy, can be effective, but as it usually just consists of an individual attending a few meetings each week and living out their lives as normal.

Aside from an individual admitting that there’s a problem and deciding on what type of treatment they need to get healthy, there’s also the matter of how to pay for it – and inpatient treatment is more costly than outpatient treatment due to the intensive care nature involved in residential facilities. That’s where a good healthcare plan can assist you, as many plans cover some of – if not all of – the costs of inpatient residential treatment.

Unfortunately, some individuals aren’t offered healthcare through their employer. But that’s where the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare, comes in handy through select providers that offer select plans. This post will take a closer look at some of the Affordable Healthcare Act options available to individuals in Kentucky.

The Affordable Care Act in Kentucky: The Basics

In the state of Kentucky, there’s one great Affordable Care Act healthcare provider – Kynect: Kentucky’s Healthcare Connection. While plans are offered at various different price points and deductibles, most of the plans offered by Kynect as part of the Affordable Care Act cover substance abuse treatment in some way. Premium prices are generally fairly affordable, though factors depend on the number of people covered under the plan, as well as the type of plan. In general, the plans that offer higher amounts of medical coverage and lower copayments and deductibles are more expensive than those with high copayments and high deductibles.

Examples of Affordable Care Act Options in Kentucky

As we noted in the previous section, most of the plans offered as part of the Affordable Care Act in Kentucky offer some sort of coverage for substance abuse treatment services. One type of Silver-level plan that residents of Kentucky have the option to purchase includes a $0 deductible in network, but a $5,000 individual deductible for out of network services. The plan also covers substance abuse and mental health treatment, to the tune of 50 percent.

Another popular plan offered to residents is a Bronze-level plan that offers a high, $6,000 deductible for in network services. This plan too covers inpatient substance abuse treatment, specifically up to 50 percent when it comes to out of network providers. For in network providers, however, there is no coverage under this plan for substance abuse treatment.

No matter what Affordable Care Act plan you have or are seeking, it’s important to stay in regular contact with a plan administrator to better and fully understand the coverage amounts, co-pays and deductibles.
